Episode IX to be Shot On Film Rather Than Digital

In what seems to be an attempt to further prove that George Lucas made bad choices with the prequels, Star Wars Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) has stated that the movie will be shot on film rather than digital. The director was part of a panel discussion on the merits of film at the Sundance Film Festival, and while his decision wasn’t actually a statement on the prequels (man, it would be great if it was though), he did have this to say:

“There’s something in my brain that says, ‘well they didn’t have video cameras then. It’s a period film. It happened a long time ago.”

His comments were obviously in jest, but he joins the ranks of  directors like Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan who are fighting the good fight, trying to keep film alive. But one has to wonder, with millions of dollars on the line, given that digital is considerably cheaper, and that the average audience member would not notice the difference, is it a futile fight?
