Disney Reportedly Looking to Reboot “Pirates of the Caribbean”

In “The Body’s Not Cold Yet” news, Disney is reportedly already looking to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, despite the fact that the last one just came out last year.  The studio has supposedly met with Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, who wrote both Deadpool  films, as well as Zombieland and its upcoming sequel, and the upcoming Ryan Reynolds/Michael Bay film 6 Underground

There have been five Pirates films so far-The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011) and most recently Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). There was also a 2011 short prequel to Curse of the Black Pearl called Tales of the Code: Wedlocked (below), which gives a little background on Jack’s sinking ship at the beginning of the film and implies how Cotton lost his tongue (it also references the now defunct auction scene from the ride, and there’s a bestiality joke for good measure).

There has been a rumored sixth film to follow up Dead Men Tell No Tales, which director Joachim Rønning has confirmed to be a possibility, so it seems odd they want to reboot the franchise. We can only speculate that Depp has expressed to Disney that he does not want to return, and continuing the current Pirates franchise without Depp would be foolish to say the least.
