Disney Planning Live Action “Sword in the Stone” Adaption

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is developing a live action version of The Sword in the Stone. The 1963 film was itself an adaptation of a 1938 book of the same name, which tells the tale of a twelve year old King Arthur and his tutoring by the wizard Merlin.

Now, we’d be the first people to say that this is a bad idea, and that Disney should just knock off their live action adaptation kick, but we know that won’t happen. Besides, this might not be too bad. Bryan Cogman, writer and producer on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been hired to write the screenplay. A Game of Thrones style telling of the King Arthur tale might be fun. Besides, The Sword in the Stone isn’t exactly one of the most cherished films in the Disney collection. You probably haven’t even seen it since you were nine years old.

Here’s the run down of the other adaptations Disney has planned (thanks to Cinema Blend): The Jungle Book (with Scarlet Johansson, Idris Elba, and more), Mulan, a prequel to Aladdin called Genies, Pete’s Dragon (with Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford), Alice Through the Looking Glass (with Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp), Beauty and the Beast (with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens), Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Tink (with Reese Witherspoon) based on Tinker Bell, a film version of the Fantasia sequence called A Night On Bald Mountain. and Maleficent 2.
