Bryan Singer Hints X-Men/Fantastic Four Crossover

In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Bryan Singer shared his idea for a possible X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover:

“Those ideas are in play. That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.”

As far as natural mechanism that would connect the two cinematic universes, he only had this to say:

“It deals with time. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Despite the fact that the Fantastic Four reboot hasn’t hit theater yet, it makes sense to want to join the two franchises. Given the success of the X-Men franchise, there is zero chance Marvel is getting the rights back to the characters, so we will never see an Avengers/X-Men crossover. So why not team up with the other superhero team that 20th Century Fox owns? Singer does point out, though, that a crossover is dependent on the success of both Fantastic Four and X-Men: Apocalypse.

“We’ll have to see how the films turn out.To just say you’re going to do it would be a mistake, you have to see how the films evolve before you make that decision to completely commit to that.”

If X-Men: Apocalypse is half as good as X-Men: Days of Future Past, that film is a no brainer for a crossover, so it really boils down to Fantastic Four. We’ll find out next month when it opens on August 7th, 2015. X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled for a May 27, 2016 release.
