Bruce Campbell Confirms New “Evil Dead” Film with Director Lee Cronin

In Empire’s upcoming Heroes issue, Bruce Campbell revealed that another film in the Evil Dead franchise is on the horizon.  “We’re just getting off the phone with Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead. It’s called Evil Dead Now. Sam [Raimi] handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole In The Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”

Campbell stated that Ash will not be featured in the new film, but will focus on a female lead, much like Fede Alverez’s 2013 remake. “From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating,” says Campbell. “You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic. We jut want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

The Evil Dead franchise has consisted of three original films (Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness), the 2013 Evil Dead remake, three seasons of the STARZ series Ash vs Evil Dead, plus four videos games, The Evil Dead (1984), Evil Dead: Hail to the King (2000), Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick (2003) and Evil Dead: Regeneration (2005), not to mention numourous comic books and an unofficial musical.
