Comedy Central is bringing “Beavis and Butthead” back to the small screen, with two confirmed seasons and plans for spinoffs. Mike Judge will return to write and produce, as well as voice the duo. “We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central,” said ViacomCBS president Chris McCarthy. “Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”
“Beavis & Butthead” was spun out of MTV’s groundbreaking animated series “Liquid Television” in 1993 and ran for seven seasons. The show quickly became a cultural phenomenon, and in 1996, the successful feature film “Beavis & Butthead Do America” was released. MTV revived the show in 2011, focussing on MTV shows like “Jersey Shore” and “16 & pregnant” rather than music videos.
Creator Mike Judge has found further success since “Beavis & Butthead,” including creating the animated series ‘King of the Hill, writing and directing the films “Office Space,” “Idiocracy” and ‘Extract,” and creating the critically acclaimed HBO series ” Silicon Valley.”
There is no word on how the new ‘Beavis & Butthead” will be formatted, as interstitials previously focused on MTV programming.
