After a couple of turns into the horror genre (Red State, Tusk), writer/director Kevin Smith makes a partial U-turn back to comedy, with Yoga Hosers. The comedy/horror film has real life friends Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp) and Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith reprising their roles as the Colleens from Tusk. The film is described as:
“The film centers on 15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie, who have an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust, releases an army of monsters, and threatens the Colleens’ big invitation to a senior party, they join forces with the legendary man-hunter from Montreal, Guy Lapointe.”
Guy Lapointe (from Tusk) will be once again played by Johnny Depp (if you’re wondering how Smith got Depp to appear in these films, he goes into detail in the video below). Incidentally, whether the film is good or not, “Eh-2-Zed” is pretty funny.
This is the second of Smith’s “True North Trilogy,” which consists of the films Tusk, Yoga Hosers, and the yet to be produced Moose Jaws (in which the Colleens will return, as well as Jason Mewes and Smith reprising Jay and Silent Bob). Yoga Hosers is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2016.
