Well that weekend has arrived. The one where a new movie finally beats Star Wars at the box office. After over a month in theaters a new release took the top spot in ticket sales. Ride Along 2, the Ice Cube/Kevin Hart vehicle, took the number one spot, bringing in an impressive $41,500,000 and knocked the Star Wars juggernaut off its pedestal. Interestingly, even though it opened last week and was unable to unseat the throne of Star Wars, The Revenant managed to garner the second spot this weekend taking in another $39,000,000 putting Star Wars at number three with a $32,500,000 take in ticket sales. The other two new movies this week didn’t fare as well. 13 Hours opened at number 4 with just under $20,000,000 and the abysmally reviewed animated feature Norm of the North opened at number 6 with just over $9,000,000.
