The Brothers Warner have slated the sequel to the smash hit Aquaman for a December 16, 2022 release. A follow up was inevitable, with the film grossing $1.1 billion worldwide and becoming the highest grossing DC film of all-time. It will be going up against an still untitled live-action Disney release and an untitled Illumination Animation film.
Reviews of Aquaman were generally positive, with a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s not quite as high as Wonder Woman’s, 93%, but a vast improvement over Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Justice League and Suicide Squad, which together averaged 37.5%.
WB recently announced a horror-themed spin-off called The Trench, which we saw briefly in Aquaman. That film will be written by newcomersNoah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald, while Aquaman 2 will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
