It looks like everyone’s favorite vocally challenged yellow tin can is getting his own movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, after the next installment of Transformers, Michael Bay will direct a Bumblebee spinoff. Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey told this to The Hollywood Reporter:
“There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies. We will make the first movie with Michael and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost.”
Well, it only makes to give a spinoff to the only character that doesn’t actually talk. Look, someone has to say it-Bumblebee is a pretty useless character in the films. The films try make us think we love him, but we really don’t. Bumblebee and Spike were beloved in the cartoon, because Spike was a kid, and the two were buddies. And Bumblebee actually frigging spoke. But without Spike, and without Bumblebee actually saying anything, he’s just a waste. So, Paramount, this is our suggestion- add Spike back in the mix for the spinoff, and fix Bumblebee’s voice box so he’s not speaking TV, and you’ve got yourself a film.
The Michael Bay directed Transformers 5 will be released on June 23, 2017, followed by the Bumblebee spinoff June 8, 2018., and and another yet to be determined stand-alone on June 28, 2019.
