It’s being reported that Tom Cruise will be returning for a third film in the Top Gun franchise. Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is currently working on a script, which is currently in development at Paramount.
The project would reunite Cruise with Maverick‘s Miles Teller and Glen Powell as well as producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison. Joe Kosinski is said to be directing or producing. Cruise is currently filming Mission: Impossible 8 For Paramount, and will soon be working on an outer space film with NASA at Universal. That’s being directed by Doug Liman.
The news come after it was announced that Cruise signed a non-exclusive pact at Warner Bros earlier this week. With a $1.49 billion box office haul, Top Gun: Maverick is the biggest grossing film in Cruise’s career. It won one Oscar last year for Best Sound and was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture.
