Tom Hardy is no stranger to comic book movies. He played Bane in the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy and was most recently going to play Rick Flag in Suicide Squad but stepped away from the project due to “filming conflicts.” Despite that he still wants to land a role in the landscape of comic book movies and he was pretty specific about which one: The Punisher.
I couldn’t imagine a better actor to bring this series back to life (no offense Thomas Jane). Hardy is no stranger to badassdom with roles like Bronson, Bane, and the soon to be released Mad Max. In a recent interview with Collider Hardy stated:
“I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…”
Although there are no current plans for a Punisher movie and now that Marvel has the rights back its hard to say whether or not we will see this character on the big screen (seeing that Marvel has yet to test the waters with an R rated superhero movie). Daredevil has proven that more adult themed superhero franchises can be successful and The Punisher is prime material for such a series.
