While doing international press for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino discussed how the film structurally fits in with his other films, and he hinted at plans for his tenth and final film:
“If you think about the idea of all the movies telling one story and each film is like a train boxcar connected to each other, this one would sort of be the big show-stopping climax of it all. And I could imagine that the 10th one would be a little more epilogue-y.”
He was also asked if he would consider making his tenth and final feature directing effort a horror film, to which he had this in response:
“If I come up with a terrific horror film story, I will do that as my tenth movie. I love horror movies. I would love to do a horror film.”
The director has played around with genres in the past, so people are speculating if he will do the same for his last film. Tarantino is still reportedly still in production with Paramount to make an R-rated Star Trek film, which would reportedly take place in the J.J. Abrams/Chris Pine “Kelvin Timeline,” which would mean his final film would in fact be science fiction. The acclaimed director has stated that he will retire from directing after ten films, though he will no doubt stay busy writing and producing.
