In an interview on The Adam Carolla Show, Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 director James Gunn confirmed that Sylvester Stallone will have a significant role in the upcoming sequel, and revealed that Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum will as well. He gave only a small amount of detail on their characters:
“We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which people don’t know about. Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters. My friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie as well, and it sort of works in tandem with Sly’s character.”
Rosenbaum, best known from his portrayal of Lex Luthor on the long running Superman origin series Smallville, starred in the recently cancelled TV Land series Impastor. Stallone’s career has had a bit of a resurgence as of late, thanks to the Expendables film series, as well as 2015’s Creed. While we have no details about either of their characters yet, we can only hope for a Tango & Cash reunion between Sly and Kurt Russell.
