In the light of the overwhelming success of Deadpool, Avatar star Stephen Lang is throwing his hat into the comic book ring, starting a campaign to be cast as Cable in the upcoming Deadpool sequel. It was announced recently that Deadpool foil Cable would appear in the next film, so Lang, who bears a resemblance to the character, Tweeted this picture:
In the comics, Cable is the adult son of X-Man Cyclops and the clone of Jean Summers, Madelyne Pryor (though that origin would likely be nixed from the film). Cable would go on to be the leader of the X-Force, and as chance would have it, Ryan Reynolds has been pushing for an X-Force film. In a recent interview with Film Starts, Reynolds had this to say:
“In the future, I think, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re gonna really explore the X-Men a lot. And maybe X-Force. X-Force my priority. I really want to get that in.”
Kick-Ass 2 screenwriter Jeff Wadlow had written an X-Force script back in 2013, but 20th Century Fox’ shelved it when they announced X-Men: Apocalypse. This may be just the thing to bring it back to the table.
