‘Shang-Chi’ Director Destin Daniel Cretton Leaves ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’

Director Destin Daniel Cretton will no longer be directing “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” according to Variety.

“Kang Dynasty,” which is positioned as the “Avengers: Infinity War” of the current Multiverse Saga, was recently delayed and now isn’t scheduled to open until May 1, 2026. It will be followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027, which will conclude the Phase Six of the MCU.

The status of the “Kang Dynasty” has been conjectured. In February’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” as well as the Disney+ series “Loki,” Jonathan Majors will reprise his roles as the title supervillain, Kang. However, the actor’s future with Marvel has been uncertain due to the fact that he is presently in court facing accusations of domestic abuse.

Cretton isn’t completely departing from the MCU. In addition to directing the follow-up to his 2021 hit film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” he is still attached to the project and is now directing Marvel Studios’ “Wonder Man” on Disney+. The TV show, for which Cretton is executive producer and director, was put on hold due to the strikes but is scheduled to begin production again shortly.
