According to Lucasfilm, Ryan Gosling will star in the upcoming “Star Wars” film, “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which will be directed by Shawn Levy. Disney has selected May 28, 2027 as the movie’s theatrical release date, and filming is expected to begin in the fall.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni formally disclosed plans for “Starfighter” on Friday morning at the banner’s annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, following many stories about Gosling and Levy’s devotion to a “Star Wars” project.
Set approximately five years after the events of “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,” which brought the Skywalker saga to a close and is currently the last movie chronologically on the “Star Wars” timeline, the standalone, which centers on new characters in the “Star Wars” universe, is set. No additional casting information was disclosed.
