Warner Bros. has released the official poster for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film Ready Player One, and it’s exactly the poster what you’d want for a nostalgic themed Spielberg film.
The Drew Struzan inspired poster was illustrated by Paul Shipper, an artist we’ve been a fan of for some time. The Manchester born artist is no stranger to high profile projects, having recently created the official poster for 2017’s Star Wars Celebration and the Star Wars The Last Jedi one sheet. Shipper has gotten a lot of praise for his 80’s inspired movie poster designs, but some have criticized him as being just a Drew Struzan clone. However, we spent some time chatting with Struzan last year (off record), and the legendary artist had nothing but high praise for Shipper and his work, so a “Struzan Seal of Approval” should be good enough for any critics out there. Based on the Ernest Cline novel of the same name, Ready Player One is set in a near-future dystopian Earth, where the population spends most of its time in an interconnected virtual space called the OASIS. When the founder of OASIS dies and bequeaths ownership of OASIS to the first person to find a hidden treasure within OASIS by playing games and solving puzzles, a race ensues between a young man and his friends, and a large corporate entity that wants to control OASIS for themselves.
The film, starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T. J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance opens March 29, 2018.
