Producer Simon Kinberg (The Wolverine, Deadpool) has not only confirmed that Wolverine 3 has begun production, but that it will definitely aiming at an R rating. He also addresses rumors that Patrick Stewart will be back to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier:
“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say… Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and… it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film. [He is a] radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies.”
This all seems to confirm that the film will likely an adaption of the much lauded “Old Man Logan” story that Hugh Jackman hinted at a while back.
The Wolverine’s James Mangold will be back to direct the film, which will also stars Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and Eriq Lasalle. The untitled Wolverine sequel is set to open March 3, 2017.
