Remember all of those sequels to Halloween? Do you also remember Rob Zombies two reboots of Halloween? Well go ahead and forget about them. In an interview with StereoGum, director John Carpenter confirmed that the upcoming Halloween film will in fact be a sequel to the original film, and it will pretend that done of the sequels existed. He stated that while he is heavily involved in the project, the idea of ignoring the sequels was that of director Danny McBride and returning star Jamie Lee Curtis:
“She talked to the director. Her part was written into the script and they had this idea — it’s kind of a… I don’t know how to describe it. It’s almost an alternative reality. It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the other [sequels] were made. It’s gonna be fun. There’s a really talented director and it was well-written. I’m impressed.”
Curtis appeared briefly in Halloween: Resurrection, in which she was killed off pretty quickly. Curtis will be returning as Laurie Strode in the new film, with Judy Greer portraying her daughter. The film is set to be released October 19th 2018.
