Apple TV+ has debuted a new “Fraggle Rock” series called “Fraggle Rock: Rock On” that is focusing on social distancing. The series, which will consist of short mini-episodes, has the Fraggles learning how to communicate with each other after the passageways in their cave system are blocked. The episodes were produced using iPhones in each individual puppeteer’s home.
Here is the official synopsis:
“The beloved stars of the classic ’80s series — Gobo, Red, Boober, Mokey, Wembley and Uncle Traveling Matt — join together again for new stories and classic Fraggle songs that show everyone how we are all connected through friendship. While the Fraggles might be in different parts of the Fraggle Rock caves, they can still find ways to have fun together, with music, silliness, special guests, and of course the help of devices created by the industrious Doozers — lovingly called the Doozertubes!”
“Fraggle Rock” ran from 1983 to 1987 and was an immediate success for HBO and the Jim Henson Company. It spawned merchandise, comic books, and an animated spinoff series, and ran in 95 countries around the globe. The Fraggles also made an appearance in the. classic Muppets/Sesame Street crossover Christmas Special, “A Muppets Family Christmas.” The Fraggles also popped up in the Ben Folds Five video “Do it Anyway.’
The first episode of “Fraggle Rock: Rock On” is currently streaming on Apple TV+. Here is the first teaser:
