Joss Whedon’s reshoots on the upcoming Justice League is apparently causing a fair amount of issues. The reshoots are reportedly needed to punch up the script a bit, which makes sense given Whedon’s stellar history with ensemble casts (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Avengers), but they are causing a few headaches for the studio. First, the reported $25 Million in reshoots have increased the budget substantially, so much so that Warner Bros. will be increasing the budgets for all future big budget films to factor in reshoot costs.
The other issue has been scheduling. Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot are currently not filming anything else, so their schedules have not been an issue. However, Ezra Miller is currently reprising his role in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, though as they are both Warner Bros. films, internal scheduling has been a bit easier. The big issue has been with Henry Cavill, who is currently shooting the next Mission Impossible for Paramount. Cavill grew a mustache for his role, which Paramount will not allow him to shave for the Justice League reshoots. Which means Warner Bros. will have to digitally remove Cavill’s facial hair, which is just going to add to the budget.
Mission Impossible 6 director Christopher McQuarrie chimed in on the ‘stache issue, explaining why fake follicles won’t work for the film:
On the plus side, there will be some great behind the scenes footage of Superman sporting a mustache. YouTuber David Johns decided to made a montage digitally adding a mustache to Supes in Batman v Superman (below).
Justice League is scheduled for a Nov 17, 2017 release.
