The 76th Venice International Film Festival concluded this weekend, with Todd Phillips’ Joker taking home the Golden Lion top prize, with Roman Polanski winning the second place Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize for An Officer and a Spy. Phillips made a point to thank Warner Bros. and DC for “stepping out of their comfort zone and taking such a bold swing on me and this movie.” He also praised star Joaquin Phoenix stating “There is no movie without Joaquin Phoenix. Joaquin is the fiercest and brightest and most open-minded lion I know. Thank you for trusting me with your insane talent.”
Joker opens to the public on October 4, 2019.
