Jennifer Love Hewitt will be reprising her role of Julie James for Sony’s upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” film.
Hewitt joins previously revealed cast members Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, Gabbriette, and Freddie Prinze Jr. (who also be returning to the horror franchise). The sequel is being directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky based on a Leah McKendrick draft. The producer is Neal Moritz.
The originakl film followed four childhood friends—Hewitt, Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe—who were harmed in a terrible accident and reconnected when they discovered that a maniac with a hook was stalking them. The movie became a cult favorite, made over $125 million globally, and spawned the follow-up “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” in which Mekhi Phifer and Brandy joined Hewitt and Prinze Jr. The latest installment’s plot details are still unknown.
In an interview with Variety, Hewitt stated “I will say it is truly such an honor, at 45, to even be invited back. To be thought of in that way, to not just move on to the newer, better, younger versions, but [to be offered] to come back and play that part is really cool.”
The new film will be released the film in theaters on July 18.
