Westworld‘s Jeffrey Wright is in negotiations to play Commissioner Gordon in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. while Jonah Hill is reportedly being considered for a mystery villain role.
The role of Commissioner Gordon has been played by three other actors on the big screen. Pat Hingle portrayed him in the Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns, as well as Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, Gary Oldman portrayed him in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises (where the character played the biggest role of his film appearances), while J. K. Simmons played him in Justice League (the 1949 film serials featured Lyle Talbot as Gordon, while on television, Neil Hamilton, played him in the 1960’s Batman series and Ben McKenzie had a starring role as the commish on FOX’s Gotham).
It’s being speculated that Hill will be portraying either the Penguin or the Riddler, though it’s possible that he will play a character we have not seen on screen yet, such as Clayface, the Mad Hatter, or Man-Bat.
The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
