In “Well, We Didn’t See That One Coming” news, Jason Momoa will be voicing Frosty the Snowman in a live-action/CGI adaptation of the children’s Christmas story for Warner Bros. and Stampede Ventures. Momoa will produce along with Geoff Johns, who, in addition to co-writing Momoa’s “Aquaman” script, also wrote ‘Wonder Woman 1984″ and is one of the creative forces behind CW’s “Arrowverse.”Jon Berg and Greg Silverman will also produce, with “Elf” screenwriter David Berenbaum writing the script.
The tale of Frosty has been told a number of times in animated form, most notably in Rankin/Bass’s 1969 TV special “Frosty the Snowman.” The special was followed up by the Rankin/Bass specials “Frosty’s Winter Wonderland” in 1976 and “Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July” in 1979, as well as “The Legend of Frosty the Snowman in 2005” and “Frosty Returns” in 1992, which is notable for being directed by Bill Melendez, who directed the classic “Peanuts” television specials.
Frosty was voiced by Jackie Vernon in the Rankin/Bass specials. Bill Fagerbakke took over as Frosty’s voice after Vernon’s death, though John Goodman provided the voice of Frosty in ‘Frosty Returns.”
There is no word if the film will follow the plots of any of the previous specials. Let’s just hope that it won’t be a remake of “Jack Frost.”
