Jason Momoa Perfectly Cast as Lobo In ‘Supergirl’

Jason Momoa, who starred in Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman movies, has been cast as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a role that’s much better suited for him than the King of Atlantis.

Momoa has been associated with the Lobo role since before James Gunn joined Peter Safran to manage DC. In a post on Instagram today, he screenshotted a quote from a previous interview, reaffirming his interest to the role.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” said the actor. Momoa went on to say that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be “a f*ck yeah.” With the Instagram screenshot, Momoa posted a caption that read, “They called.”

Originating from the planet Czarnia, Lobo is an antihero with a violent and irreverent nature. He is a powerful opponent due to his superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and invulnerability. The character, which was created by Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer, is frequently portrayed as a bounty hunter who takes pleasure in mayhem and devastation. In June 1983, he made his debut in Omega Men #3.

The new Supergirl’s plot is still unknown. Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon was cast in the title character, while Matthias Schoenaerts was cast as Krem of the Yellow Hill, the antagonist. Ruthye Mary Knolle was portrayed by Eve Ridley more recently.

Ana Nogueira wrote the script, which Craig Gillespie will direct. Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Bilquis Evely illustrated, served as the inspiration for the project. DC EVP Chantal Nong will executive produce, with Gunn and Safran, the DC leaders, serving as producers. The first day of production is January 13.
