In what seems is an effort further muddy the waters of the DC Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. is apparently planning a stand alone Joker film featuring Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad Clown Prince. This is in addition to the previously announced Todd Phillips directed Joker origin story not featuring Jared Leto but rather Joaquin Phoenix.
The film, produced by Leto, would serve to further expand the Suicide Squad world along with the upcoming Margot Robbie produced Harley Quinn spin-off. The Martin Scorsese produced origin film would be part of a separate DC Cinematic Universe focusing on origins. Look, it’s great that DC wants to closer mimic the vibe of the comic book world with various versions of characters, but creating a cohesive comic book universe has done pretty well for Marvel (and they didn’t even have access to the entire Marvel catalogue of characters), so you’d think DC might take some cues from them. Not to mention, Leto’s Joker has been the least liked Joker to date.
