James Gunn Making ‘Peacemaker’ Series Starring John Cena for HBO Max

Eleven months before the release of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel, Warner Bros. has already announced a spin-off series for HBO Max  featuring John Cena’s character, Peacemaker.  Apparently WB execs are quite pleased with the character and are looking to cash in on his expected popularity.  The network has already given the show an eight-episode straight-to-series order, with production expected to begin early next year. . Gun will write every episode and direct a few. Cena will act as co-producer on the series.

Peacemaker debuted in Charlton Comics in 1966, and was brought in to the DC Universe in the 80s when DC bought the failing Charlton. The Peacemaker is Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat so committed to peace that he was willing to use force as a superhero to advance the cause. According to HBO Max, Christopher Smith is a man who “believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.”
