James Gunn went to Instagram to announce that not only has Superman: Legacy begun filming, but it has a new name as well: SUPERMAN.
Gunn wrote on Instagram, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025. ”
Gunn recently shared a cast photo, which included David Corenswet (Superman/Clark Kent), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), and Isabela Merced.
SUPERMAN marks the first film in Gunn’s new DCEU, with other DC properties such as “The Batman,” and “Teen Titans Go!” being categorized as DC Elsewords, inspired by the DC Comics Elsewords line.
SUPERMAN is scheduled for release July 11, 2025 .
