Indy 5 Will Not Recast Role

Despite rumors to the contrary, we will never see another actor don the fedora and whip in future Indiana Jones films. That’s not to say there won’t be more films. Producer Frank Marshall spoke recently to , where he had this to say:

“There are a lot of rumors. We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton. [But we are] not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones… we have to figure this out.”

There had been rumors that the role would be recast with Chris Pratt, or Bradley Cooper (both good choices), but a passing of the baton realistically rules them out. The Bond thing could have worked had they implemented it back in the 1990’s, after Last Crusade. But what we’re going to get instead is a new character globetrotting around the world looking for lost artifacts.  That may or may not work. A natural heir would have been Indy’s son, but there are three reasons that will likely not be the case: 1. Shia LaBeouf will never come back (by either his accord or Spielberg’s). 2. Indy’s son was a greaser slacker. 3. Mutt is the dumbest name for a character ever. The only was it could work is if Mutt is recast, we find out he’s gone to school to become an archaeologist, and he’s given a new name.  Let’s at least hope they give Harrison Ford and the team one more chance to redeem themselves.
