If you’re a Pacific Rim fan, you’re going to be disappointed, as Legendary Pictures has indefinately taken a sequel off the table. If you’re a fan of 1960’s science fiction films then you’re in luck, because it looks like Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro may instead direct a remake of the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage. The film was a Cold War Era adventure about a submarine crew who shrink to microscopic size and venture into the body of an injured scientist to repair the damage to his brain.
The story was originally meant to be set in the Victorian Era, rather than the 1960’s, but I would think the former would be a better suit for del Toro. Another Pacific Rim would great, but a Jules Verne style del Toro directed Innerspace would be pretty… fantastic (dammit, it was unavoidable). Here’s the trailer for the original film:
