During a Q&A at the Prince Charles Cinema , Gremlins star Zach Galligan has confirmed that the rumored Gremlins film will not be a reboot, but rather a sequel in the vein of Jurassic World:
“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form.Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be – and apparently are going to be – doing is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.”
As to whether or not he’ll show up in the film, the actor had this to say:
“I swear on my life, I don’t know if I’m in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I’m one of the few people left standing from the first movie.”
If they’re going to do this, it’s nice to see they’re going to have the decency to make it an honest to goodness sequel, and not a reboot as previously reported. If studios are going to continue to rape our childhoods, at least someone is willing to throw a condom on (EDITOR’S NOTE: Rape jokes aren’t funny). Gremlins 2 was a blast of a sequel, as director Joe Dante essentially made a spoof of his own film, so hopefully the third will have a bit of tongue in cheek to it. No word if Phoebe “My Husband Kevin Kline Looks Like My Father” Cates will appear.
