An inside source has told us that a follow up to the 2006 stoner comedy Grandma’s Boy may be in the works. The film, which was produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company, starred longtime Sandler cohorts Allen Covert and Nick Swardson (and a then unknown Jonah Hill), and centered around a video game tester (Covert) who is forced to move in with his grandmother (Doris Roberts) after being evicted from his home. Grandma’s Boy was a bomb at the box office, earning only $6.56 million with a $25 million budget, though the film did find a pretty hard core following after its home video release and cable run. it also went on to win a few awards in High Times’ 2006 Stony Awards, including “Best Stoner Movie”, “Best Actor in a Movie” (Allen Covert), and “Best Pot Scene in a Movie”.
The sequel reportedly has a script, but is being held up by a few things, first and foremost being the passing of Roberts, who died earlier this year. Some behind the scenes dealings with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has also has left the film in limbo, but apparently the film is being shopped around for a new home.
