The all female Ghostbusters reboot has begun filming in Boston (?!), and Entertainment Tonight aired this piece, which has some pics from the set:
Based on an article from the Boston Herald, this is what we know about the film:
…the all-gal Ghostbusters in the new flick are played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones and according to our script spies, Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U… Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia.
We also know the Chris Helmsworth is playing the “Janine” secretary role (?!). We’ve also heard rumors that there will be another Ghostbusters film, which would be an actual sequel to the original series. That came from the tragically optimistic Dan Akroyd, so who knows if that’s true. All we do know is that we still think this reboot is a bad idea. You want to bring in a new cast? Fine. You want all females? Sure. But how about you don’t disrespect Akroyd, Ivan Reitman, Ernie Husdon, and the late Harold Ramis by making a reboot (Bill Murray couldn’t give two shits). Make this a sequel, and let the original cast hand off the baton. We were excited about the film when Ernie Hudson told Film Dumpster they were going to starting this past fall or spring. Well, they did. Just without the people that anyone cares about.
