Last week, The Daily Beast ran an lengthy article about an ex-cop that rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game and stole and gave out millions of dollars, making himself rich in the process. It is a riveting story about the “head of a sprawling network of mobsters, psychics, strip club owners, convicts, drug traffickers, and even a family of Mormons, who had falsely claimed more than $24 million in cash and prizes.” The captivating story screams to be made into a film, and Deadline is reporting that Fox is doing just that.
Matt Damon is set to star in the project with his longtime friend and collaborator Ben Affleck set to direct. Damon and Affleck will produce the film through their Pearl Street company, with the Deadpool writing team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese on board to write the script.
Bidding for the rights for Jeff Maysh’s article was reportedly ferocious (once you read the article you’ll see why), with Universal, Warner Bros., and Netflix all vying to get their hands on it.
