Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash in the upcoming Starz series, Ash vs Evil Dead, and it is glorious.
Pictured with Ash are his fellow co-workers Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana Delorenzo). The article states they are employees of Value Stop, so it’s unclear if Ash has left his beloved S-Mart, or if it was a misprint by EW.
Bruce gave a little info as far as what Ash has been up to for the last 22 years:
“Not much. He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But…he is. He’s our guy!”
Director/producer Sam Raimi talks a little about Ash’s role in the battle of the deadites:
“He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits. And he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you’ll pardon the French.”
And this is how Campbell describes the new series:
“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem,” adds Campbell of the newest chapter in the Evil Dead saga. “I’m relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team—the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis.”
Holy hell, even if this is the worst show ever made, it will be freaking amazing.
