Film Review: “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”

PLOT: Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that there are many others who share his special, high-flying talents. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world.

REVIEW: I went into this film, actually with low expectations. The build-up to it’s release just made me feel like it was going to focus everywhere but on telling a good story. But, boy was I wrong. I so thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish. This easily was one of the best, if not THE best Spider-Man films I have ever seen.
The animation was really interesting and mixed well with the overall feel of the film. I am glad this was animated instead of done with live action actors. I mean, we got Spider-Ham! Wow! It was hilarious, it had great heart, it was a good story, and the actors were fantastic in their voice roles. I loved Liev Schreiber as Kingpin, and wow, Jake Johnson was the BOMB as Peter Parker. Jake and the heart of the film, Miles Morales, played solidly by Shameik Moore, really carried the film. I loved all the other Spider-People. It was the performances for Parker and Morales that made this film so damned enjoyable.

YES, stay through the credits! There is another scene!

CONCLUSION: Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse was a fun damned superhero film, and easily gets a near perfect score of 9 out of 10 Potatoes.
