Bad news for Iron Man fans. In an interview with USA Today , Robert Downey Jr. broke the news that there will likely not be an Iron Man 4, stating:
“I don’t think that’s in the cards,” adding “In a way it’s Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes.”
Not that they’ll be a shortage of Iron Man in the near future. He’s essentially the co-star of Captain America: Civil War, plus there are still two more Avengers movies to come out (Infinity Parts 1 & 2). So unless the kill Tony off (which is unlikely), we’ll see enough of him in the coming years.
Downey was also asked if Tony will be more of a villain in Captain America: Civil War, as he was in the comic series:
“If we’re going to go there, then we’ve got to save it for my swan song. I would still like to keep a general audience and mildly be in their favor somehow.”
Not that it’s a surprise to hear that. It would obviously not be in the best interest of Marvel shareholders to have Tony to go to the Dark Side.
