Disney plans on owning the next decade of Decembers, as they have announced that they will be releasing the three long-awaited Avatar sequels and a new post-Skywalker Star Wars trilogy, alternating every other year starting in December of 2021. This pushes back the follow up to Avatar by a year, as Fox had intended on releasing it in 2020. Below are the release dates for the two franchises:
Avatar 2 – December 17, 2021
Star Wars #1 – December 16, 2022
Avatar 3 – December 22, 2023
Star Wars #2 – December 20, 2024
Avatar 4 – December 19, 2025
Star Wars #3 – December 18, 2026
Avatar 5 – December 17, 2027
Disney is giving us a little breathing room after December’s Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, realizing that oversaturation hurt both Episode VIII and Solo: A Star Wars Story. If you’re really jonesing for an Avatar fix, you can always ride the Avatar Flight of Passage ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
