Disney Announces Release Dates for 19 Movies through 2020

Disney has announced release dates for nineteen movies through the year 2020. Although most of the films are untitled at this point, there are a few notable films that were announced, including Cars 3 on 3/6/17, Toy Story 4, with a release date of 6/15/18, Ant-Man and the Wasp on 7/6/18 and The Incredibles 2 on 6/21/19. It can be assumed one of the untitled Pixar releases will be the Finding Nemo follow up, Finding Dory.

None of the named films are a surprise, although it’s nice to know that we’ll see more of Evangeline Lily with Paul Rudd in the Ant-Man sequel. Cars 2 was crap on wheels, so a threequel is chancy. The Toy Story trilogy was probably one of the most successful trilogies of all time in terms of quality and box office, so going back to that well may not be advised. The same can be said for The Incredibles 2 and Finding Dory. The Indredibles was a very solid entry in the Pixar canon, so while a sequel could end up as a Toy Story 2, it could also fall in the sub-par Monster’s University category. Finding Nemo is regarded by many as the greatest animated film ever made, so Disney would really be better off just leaving it be. But leaving it be won’t make them a metric ton of money.
