Captain America: Civil War has stepped up the crossover game within the Marvel Cinematic Universe a bit, adding characters like Ant-Man and Spider-man being thrown into the mix, but expect the next Avengers to step it up even more. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Avengers: Infinity War co-director Anthony Russo mentioned a Guardians of the Galaxy crossover:
“The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU so you don’t want to get into spoilers but I’m a big fan of what James Gunn has done.[Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you’d be very excited.”
We’ve known Guardians was part of the MCU, but we didn’t know when we’d see any of the characters interact with anyone else in the MCU. There is no mention of any other of the Guardians, but co-director Joe Russo did confirm Thor will be back:
“I’m excited to work with Thor. They’re doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War Part One will be released on May 4, 2018, with Avengers: Infinity War Part Two being released a year later on May 03, 2019.
