Paramount has snagged Chris Pine to star in an update of “The Saint.” The film will be the second big screen adaptation of the 1920’s series of books by Leslie Charteris. It was last adapted in 1997 with Val Kilmer taking on the role of Simon Templar. ‘The Saint” has spent some time on the small screen as well, with a couple different British-produced series, the first starring a pre-James Bond Roger Moore.
“Rocketman” director Dexter Fletcher will helm the project from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers & G.I. Joe franchises) will produce with Brad Krevoy and Mark Vahradian. Famed producer Robert Evans, who produced the 1997 film helped get the film off the ground prior to his death last year.
Pine is set to return to Paramount’s “Star Trek” franchise for a fourth time, though no production schedule has been set yet. Pine will next be seen in Warner Bros’ “Wonder Woman 1984,” currently set for an August 14, 2020 release date.
