It looks as though Chris Evans will be returning to the MCU in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday.
It’s unclear who he will play because by the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve Rogers had grown old and given Captain America patriotic shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. This summer, Evans made a brief but memorable appearance in the billion-dollar blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, his character from Fox’s 2005 and 2007 “Fantastic Four” films. Although the plot of Doomsday has not yet been revealed, Robert Downey Jr. is returning, albeit not in his iconic role as Iron Man. Instead, he’ll be portraying villain Doctor Doom, the main villain for the Fantastic Four.
Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will wrap up the Multiverse Saga of the MCU, are being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. They have hinted that the two films will be related, similar to the two-part plots of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars expected a year later on May 7, 2027.
