According to JoBlo, director Chris Columbus has stated he wants to direct another Harry Potter film. In particular, he wants to direct a film that takes between the events of Deathly Hallows, and the flash foward at the end of the film.
I would love to go back and do another one. Not FANTASTIC BEASTS as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I’m just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There’s 18 years there of great Harry Potter stories.
I don’t have the courage to actually mention that to [J.K. Rowling] because I have such respect for her. She should do what she wants to do, but I really would love to know what’s in her head about those missing years.
Look, it’s great that he wants to do another Harry Potter film. It’s almost downright adorable. But while Columbus did a great job establishing the Potter film universe in Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets, it’s safe to say the best films came after his departure from the franchise. Not to mention, J.K. Rowling has Harry clamped down pretty tight. She only agreed to a film adaption of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them if she could write the screen play. So relax, Chris. It’s reassuring, though, that there are directors out there are are still fanboys.
