Taking place twenty years before the events of the first Transformers film, Bumblebee takes refuge in a small California beach town junkyard where he is befriended by a teenage girl named Charlie Watson. This is the first film in the live-action Transformers series not to be directed by Michael Bay, though like other Bay produced films like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films, it sure as heck looks like a Michael Bay film.
Jury’s still out as to whether or not the only mute Autobot can carry a film on his own (this also marks the first Transformers film without fan favorite Optimus Prime). It would have nice if they based it on the friendship between Bumblebee and Spike from the original Transformers series (at least he’s a Volkswagen Beatle here). Since Transformers 6 has been pulled from Paramount’s production schedule, and there are rumors of a reboot of the series in 2021, maybe we’ll still see that happen.
Bumblebee opens December 21, 2018.
I always adored Bumblebee
