Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back in the first trailer for Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Sony Pictures debuted the first trailer for the sequel and its new title, Ride or Die on Tuesday, showing Smith and Lawrence reuniting for more action nearly 30 years after the 1995 original movie.
The “Bad Boys” film franchise, anchored by Smith and Lawrence, has carved out its niche in the action-comedy genre with its blend of high-octane thrills and buddy cop camaraderie. The series debuted in 1995 with “Bad Boys,” directed by Michael Bay, introducing audiences to the dynamic duo of Miami narcotics detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence). Packed with explosive action sequences and witty banter between the two leads, the film was a box office hit and quickly gained a cult following for its adrenaline-pumping escapades and comedic chemistry.
Following the success of the original film, the franchise returned with “Bad Boys II” in 2003, once again helmed by Bay. The sequel upped the ante with even more over-the-top action set pieces and comedic moments, as Mike and Marcus found themselves entangled in a drug trafficking case with international implications. Despite mixed critical reception, the film’s undeniable entertainment value and the enduring appeal of its leading duo propelled it to commercial success, solidifying the franchise’s status as a staple of the action-comedy genre. After a lengthy hiatus, “Bad Boys for Life” arrived in 2020, marking the long-awaited return of Smith and Lawrence to their iconic roles, receiving praise for injecting fresh energy into the series while paying homage to its roots.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die is in theaters June 7.
