Once again, the Super Bowl was a showcase for movie studios to highlight some their upcoming blockbusters. However, Super Bowl movie trailers have evolved into brief teasers for the lengthier full-length online trailers. Tom Cruise, dinosaurs, superheroes, and live-action animation film remakes were all featured in Super Bowl LIX, but only in 30-second commercials that directed viewers to longer online trailers.
These are all of this year’s Super Bowl’s big (but brief) movie trailers, some of which were made public well in advance of the big game:
Thunderbolts*
During the actual Super Bowl, Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* received a brief television commercial, but it was only a preview of the much longer trailer. We get a better look at Marvel’s kinda-big-bad guy, Sentry, a Superman-like character with a convoluted past, thanks to a fresh look at the company’s new motley crew of misfits and kinda-bad people.
On May 2, Thunderbolts* will be released in theaters. We will undoubtedly understand the significance of that asterisk by then.
Jurassic World Rebirth
A few days prior to Super Bowl LIX, we got our first glimpse of Jurassic World Rebirth, but a new Big Game Spot offers a glimpse of the resurrected property. The new Jurassic World film, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, sends an extraction team to the island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, which is home to the “worst of the worst” dinosaurs.
On July 2, Jurassic World Rebirth explodes into theaters.
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning
Once more, the Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning Super Bowl commercial is merely a preview of the full, previously unreleased trailer, but it features the most desired element of all: Tom Cruise dangling from the side of an aircraft. A straight follow-up to 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the eighth Mission: Impossible film will be released on May 23.
How to Train Your Dragon
The Super Bowl spot for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon reboot from DreamWorks was a teaser for the actual. trailer. Universal hopes that you will return on Wednesday when the entire trailer for How to Train Your Dragon is released, in contrast to rival film companies that want you to head straight to YouTube for the lengthier version. While you wait, enjoy Hiccup and Toothless in both live-action and computer-generated imagery.
How to Train Your Dragon hits movie theaters on June 13.
Novocaine
Jack Quaid, star of The Boys, is the protagonist of a brand-new action-thriller with an intriguing idea: Because Quaid’s character Nate Caine is incapable of experiencing pain, he is left feeling nothing after his extremely violent quest to save his kidnapped lover, played by Amber Midthunder, star of Prey. Despite being shot, stabbed, and pummeled, Nate chooses to ignore the incident. To give you an idea of what to expect, the man even deep-fries his hand at one point.
Novocaine hits movie theaters on March 14.
Lilo & Stitch
Disney’s promo for the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake is more of an on-field celebration of the cute Stitch than a typical movie teaser. You might want to see the last Lilo & Stitch trailer, which was released towards the end of last year, if you want more of that adorableness.
Lilo & Stitch hits theaters on May 23.
Smurfs
Papa Smurf, who is kidnapped by the evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel and sends the Smurfs on a rescue expedition, is voiced by John Goodman in the new Smurfs film. James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell, and Rihanna (as Smurfette) are among the voice actors.
Smurfs makes way into movie theaters on July 18.
F1
Brad Pitt plays a former racer in “F1” who is forced to retire due to an injury sustained in the 1990s. He returns after being persuaded to train a talented rookie (Damson Idris) by his friend, an owner (Javier Bardem). The race car driving scenes in “F1” are using comparable technology to how Joseph Kosinski, the director of “Top Gun: Maverick,” captured the fighter pilots in that movie.
“F1” bursts into theaters on June 25.
M3GAN 2.0
Technically his was the same commercial that played at last Sunday’s Grammys. Directed by Gerard Johnstone, M3GAN 2.0 stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw.
M3GAN 2.0 opens June 27.
