It looks like Ben Affleck has taken the bat ears by the reins, and has gone ahead and written his own solo Batman script. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Patrick Whitesell (co-CEO of talent agency WME-IMG), stated
“He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape. There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”
It’s not the first time we’ve hard talk about Affleck writing his own solo Batman script. It was rumored he was working with DC Entertainment chief creative officer Geoff Johns on a solo Batman film, with Affleck tentatively attached to direct.
Despite luke warm reviews of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck’s portrayal of Bats has been praised as one of the best on screen incarnations. That combined with Affleck’s pretty stellar directing record, and an Oscar under his belt for screen writing, makes the idea of an Affleck written, directed and starring Batman film pretty appealing. We will next see Affleck don the cowl in a small role in Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016.
