Film Independent announced nominations for its upcoming Spirit Awards. The event marks the 40th year the nonprofit arts organization will celebrate outstanding independent films and TV series. The ceremony will be hosted once more by Aidy Bryant (“Saturday Night Live,” “Shrill”), following her highly praised turn hosting the awards last year.
Sean Baker’s “Anora” and Jane Schoenbrun’s “I Saw the TV Glow” lead the charge with six nominations apiece. On the TV side, reining best drama Emmy winner “Shōgun” came out on top with five nominations.
The Independent Spirit Awards will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at the Santa Monica beach.
